SM City Cagayan de Oro conducted a seminar to its employees, affiliates and agency personnel to emphasize care for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) last September 23, 2009 from 8am to 10am at the Atrium, Ground Floor.

Assistance to persons with disabilities is one of SM Prime’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. With this campaign along with the other SM Cares’ award winning CSR projects, it has brought the SM malling experience to a world class level.

In SM’s 35 malls nationwide including SM City Cagayan de Oro, facilities are continuously being improved to make a barrier-free environment for persons with special needs. SM nurtures a consciousness that mallgoers with special needs must be attended to properly.

Architect Jaime Silva, Chairman of the Committee on Accessibility of the United Architects of the Philippines, was the guest speaker during the seminar. Architect Silva is a blind architect, but inspite of his disability, he continues to be self-reliant.

Aside from pursuing a successful career in property management, Architect Silva has actively involved himself in the promotion of a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities in the Philippines.
